Windows 7 — Installation

logo_windows I like to keep up with what’s happening in the world of operating systems, so I decided to install Microsoft Windows 7 to see what I thought of Redmond’s latest offering. Installation was a breeze. While Vista was running I popped in the DVD and was greeted by a big dialog with an “install me” button. I had one decision to make during installation, which was to upgrade the current OS or install as new. I chose the upgrade option first but later found out that it wouldn’t work as Service Pack 1 wasn’t installed. Not to worry, next time around I chose the new install which kindly made a copy of the current Vista installation in C:\Windows.old. To finish the installation I needed to specify my timezone and the current time, and create a user. And that was that, Windows 7 was up and running. In total it took just over an hour for the installation. The VAIO I installed it on is less than two years old (Core Duo 1.8GHz, 2GB SDRAM 667MHz) so I would have expected it to be a little bit quicker, but feedback was decent throughout the install. A good start for Windows 7. I’ll give my first impressions after I’ve played with it for a bit.
